Re: Summer signings just not good enough.
if ever there was a time to get icardi its now. they should just man up and put there fucking money where their mouth is. £50m bid in, no fucking around.

Re: Summer signings just not good enough.
Agree about Fernandez, Fletcher and Quina.

Just the sorts we should be after. Investing wisely in the future for little outlay. If they don't develop as hoped then we've lost nothing. If they do we get a good player or at least a big fee for them if they want to leave.

Re: Summer signings just not good enough.
The principal criticism of Sturridge is lack of movement. I'm not sure he'd suit our current first team any more than Zaza or Carroll have.

Sturridge is quality but made of glass. Have we learnt nothing from Carroll? Avoid.

Re: Summer signings just not good enough.
He wasn't playing last season either and was practically told they wouldn't stand in his way if he wanted to leave.

Re: Summer signings just not good enough.
Under good coaching any signing should improve given time. Players like Fernandes and Fletcher are exactly the sort of developing players we should be investing in imo. Quina too. Those are the important signings, and I give the club credit for those.

Sven Roeder 4:21 Mon Oct 31
Re: Summer signings just not good enough.
He isn't first choice in October
Always amuses me when people see a player out of a team and think he should leave. THINGS CHANGE. Ditto for Rooney who people seem to be selling to Everton after a couple of games on the bench.
Only silly cunts like Sahko are stupid enough to react like that.

Re: Summer signings just not good enough.
Sturridge isn't playing for a title challenging team and cant get a look in as well as having his manager saying he is not first choice.

yeah give them sakho and carroll simon

Re: Summer signings just not good enough.
Sturridge would swap a title challenge for a relegation dogfight?

Defoe is playing for a team that are as good as down. Mercenary little fucker that he is, he'd probably jump at it. Short term fix, and he could leave a hero.

franksfat&slow&wank 2:54 Mon Oct 31
Re: Summer signings just not good enough.
we went for quantity due to the fucking Europa league imo and we managed to fuck that up

think we just need to remain calm as we just beat Chelsea on our much heap

start ayew next game and hope lanzini and payet play well as those 2 are up and down more times than Jordans fucking knickers

Re: Summer signings just not good enough.
Yep its pretty much the case that 80% of our summer intake is mediocre at best.

Gold and Sullivan always talk about only bringing in players that will improve the team. You cannot always get it right but we got most of ours wrong this last window.

Fernandes looks to be the best deal we did by some way, then probably Arthur and hopefully Ayew. Perhaps longer term Fletcher or Martinez but these are more hope than evidence. So 2 - 3 of 11. Not good enough.

As many state, we went for quantity not quality. Is it Sullivan's belief that he knows what a player should earn and refuses to pay over the odds on salary or is there a wage structure constraining things? I don't know? Were these selections mostly Bilics, Sullivans, Henry's? We don't know.

The lesson learned is go for proven quality and pay over the odds if you have to in order to get them to WH. You may end up with some mercenaries but at least some of them will improve the first team. Tevez did ok. The other option in parallel is to take the youth development seriously. Go and look at what Southampton are doing and try to emulate that.

Emineke was better than Zaza based on what I have seen so far and Valencia better than Tore. JOB was better at RB than sticking Nordtveit there. Tomkins was better than both.

Losing Tomkins and gaining just 2 or 3 decent additions to the squad means a net improvement of 1 - 2 player. With other teams improving we have arguably gone backwards ?

its going to be expensive to fix this now anyway, with 2 or 3 premium players needed in jan to keep us safe.

ZaZa is worse than the Csa evaded.

Steven P 2:41 Mon Oct 31
Re: Summer signings just not good enough.
Sounds expensive what I said there but we have money earmarked for zaza and tore already.

chedylan 2 2:38 Mon Oct 31
Re: Summer signings just not good enough.
agree with steven...these plumbs are just wasting salaries and squad space now. We have younger , and would have thought hungrier players who should be given a chance over them.

the whole policy this summer has been wrong, we have unbalanced the squad terribly with the procurement of mediocre cheap and 'safe' options in the wrong places while simultaneously weakening the defense. A very poor window.

Steven P 2:24 Mon Oct 31
Re: Summer signings just not good enough.
I would send Tore, Calleri and Zaza back. Put Antonio on the right and bring in Sturridge and Icardi. Hope that we could offload Carroll, either Jan or the summer. Strike force would then be Sturridge, Icardi, Fletcher and Martinez. That's a lot better.

simon.s 2:14 Mon Oct 31
Re: Summer signings just not good enough.
Defoe would have won us that yesterday.

More clinical than anyone we have at the moment.

El Scorchio 2:05 Mon Oct 31
Re: Summer signings just not good enough.
Sullivan's very public concerns about Austin's knee killed any possible deal for him.

Shame as Southampton seem to have nabbed a good player at a decent price- same as with Redmond.

dealcanvey 2:03 Mon Oct 31
Re: Summer signings just not good enough.
Imagine instead of paying a four million loan fee for Zaza we bought Austin for that price.
